This is a novel composition of matter with combined properties of elasticity, electrical conductivity and bio-degradability.

Abstract

This new engineered cardiac patch (ECP) material is designed to repair and restore cardiac function after injury to the muscle. This proprietary cryogel material combines conductive properties to maintain coordination of muscle cell activity, elasticity and mechanical strength to support the extracellular matrix in the active heart muscle, and bio compatibility to promote cell infusion and adherence. The material improves cardiac function in the damaged heart. Animal tests show that the fractional shortening and ejection fraction are improved by 50 percent and the infarct size is reduced by 43 percent.
